the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit which as of
2012 employed Linus Torvalds.
Current Applications: One of the most successful open-source
products is the GNU/Linux operating system, an open-source Unix-like operating system,
and its derivative Android, an operating system for mobile
devices. The commercialism and marketing of the open source software is easy
because there is minimal if any charge for the various software download and
use.In the educational community through sharing information and educational
tools has seen the use of this software more widespread.
Conclusion: OSS has become an increasingly important part
of the software ecosystem. At the user level, requires careful consideration of
practical advantages and disadvantages .at the developer level requires great
care in managing the legal risks of security, quality and IP assets, so finally
it is concluded that Open-Source offers
opportunities: Vast pool of
software talent with access to, the
ability to improve, access and utilize software. At the same time with
some Disadvantages: Risk of Utilizing software, No warranties, Quality may not be up to the mark.
